About the Organisation

Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) provides a comprehensive Primary Health Care service to Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley region in Western Australia using a holistic approach that includes a high standard of service delivery, the promotion of social justice and the overcoming of the health issues that affect so many people in the region.

Preventative and public health programs include Maternal and Child Health, Women’s Health, Chronic Disease, Sexual Health and along with the OVAHS Social Support Unit which offers AOD, Mental Health Services, health promotion and education programs in the areas of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders prevention, smoking cessation, chronic disease prevention, childhood health promotion and sexual health.

About the Opportunity

Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) is seeking a motivated and influential Registered Nurse/AHP - Sexual Health  to join their team on a full-time basis in Kununurra, WA.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of care provided by OVAHS. 

The primary objective of this role is to provide culturally sensitive and clinically effective nursing care at an advanced level within the field of sexual health and blood borne virus prevention, treatment, and care. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in increasing testing rates for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs) among OVAHS clients, particularly in response to the ongoing Syphilis outbreak and the endemic levels of other STIs prevalent in the East Kimberley region.

 

In addition to clinical nursing and clinical duties, this position will actively support the existing comprehensive primary health care approach by offering clinical support to the team in the management of STI screening, treatment, contact tracing, education, and quality improvement initiatives. Recognizing the significance of cultural identity and social circumstances, the successful candidate will ensure that care delivery is culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal clients. Moreover, the role encompasses providing information and support regarding contraception and pregnancy options, contributing to holistic sexual and reproductive health care provision within the community.
