Your Role

We are looking for a full-time General Practitioner based in Kununurra, WA.

As a General Practitioner at OVAHS, you will report to the Senior Medical Officer and play a vital role in delivering comprehensive and culturally sensitive healthcare services to the Aboriginal community.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Delivering high-quality primary healthcare services including diagnosis, treatment, and management of medical conditions
  • Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect for Aboriginal traditions and practices in healthcare delivery
  • Managing chronic diseases and implementing evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes
  • Developing and delivering health promotion programs and educating patients on preventive measures and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide integrated care
  • Advocating for the health rights and needs of the Aboriginal community and contributing to policy development
  • Participating in continuous quality improvement activities and supporting the effectiveness of the quality management system
  • Upholding the organisation's mission, values, and promoting a positive workplace culture

What You Need 

To be considered for this position you must be a Vocationally Registered GP (FRACGP, FACRRM, or equivalent) or RACGP/ACRRM Fellowship or assessed by RACGP, ACCRM or RHW as requiring Level 2-4 supervision, is essential.

Importantly, you will be committed to providing culturally sensitive healthcare and demonstrate an interest in working closely with Aboriginal communities, to understand their health issues and work with them to find solutions. Experience working in Aboriginal or remote communities would be greatly beneficial, but not essential. 

Please Note: A current Australian ‘C’ Class driver’s license or equivalent, and Federal Police clearance and Working With Children Check are essential role requirements.

A total employment package is on offer circa $400,000*, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This package includes an annual starting salary of $270,000* plus a range of benefits to significantly increase the value of your overall remuneration package including:

  • Sponsorship for candidates outside of Australia

  • No on-call or weekend work
  • Quality Staff housing with all utilities included
  • Fully maintained 4WD Vehicle with fuel for work and personal use (as per OVAHS Motor Vehicle Policy)
  • 5 weeks Annual leave
  • Additional two weeks paid leave over the Christmas closure period, inclusive of public holidays
  • Generous Study leave and allowance
  • RELOCATION ASSISTANCE
  • 14% leave loading (paid at the end of 12 months continual service)
  • Annual airfare allowance of $1,800 payable on 12 months of continued service
  • Public holidays as paid days off
  • Sociable hours (Mon-Fri 8 am - 4 pm)
