About the Opportunity
Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) is looking for an Aboriginal Health Practitioner to join their team in Kununurra, WA on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Health Operations Manager, you will be providing primary health care and support to doctors, nurses or other allied health staff to ensure care is patient-focused and centred on the needs of Aboriginal patients, in line with their cultural identity, family and social circumstances.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Completing initial health checks, assessing health literacy and collecting pathology samples;
- Providing general clinical care across all areas of the health service, including child health, chronic disease, antenatal and emergency care;
- Assisting doctors, nurses and other health professionals with appropriate communication, treatments and any advice relevant to a client’s care needs;
- Acting as a positive role model for Cert III and IV Aboriginal Health Workers; and
- Providing education about disease prevention, how to mitigate risk factors and self-manage health conditions, ensuring treatments and care management plans are understood by all clients.
About You
To be considered for this position you will be recognised by AHPRA as a qualified Aboriginal Health Practitioner, with a practicing certificate and a Certificate II in Medications. Newly qualified practitioners are welcome to apply, though experience will be highly regarded.
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal people in rural and remote areas and the impact these have on health and wellbeing, with solid clinical assessment skills and an understanding of the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
Able to work both independently and collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be able to build relationships with people from all walks of life, and have the strong communication skills needed to break down clinical concepts, investigations, tests or treatments to patients to ensure that they are fully informed, understand their condition, and are given a voice.
Importantly, OVAHS is looking for someone who's genuinely passionate about health literacy, and committed to providing quality and patient-focused health care.
Please note: The successful candidate will require a current 'C' class drivers licence, and either hold or be willing to obtain National Police Clearance and Working with Children clearance prior to commencement.
